HARDWELL INTERVIEW
Field of Noise recently had the pleasure to interview DJ/Producer Robbert Van de Corput , better known as HARDWELL.
Chris of FON - So you started to DJ at an early age, 13 correct? what was it that made you want to be a DJ and where was your first gig?
HARDWELL - I started to DJ when I was 12 years old. I was always into music since I was like 6 years old. When I watched a show on Dutch MTV called The DJ’s with Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and many other DJ’s I knew I wanted to be a dj. My first gigs where at the local dancing school in my hometown Breda.
Chris of FON - How does it feel to be one of the hottest DJ's in the world at such a young age & how have you handled the success ?
HARDWELL - It’s unbelievable and it all happened so fast. I enjoy every minute of it but this has been my dream since I started, so yeah living the dream right now and it’s just getting started.
Chris of FON - You started your own record label in 2010 called Revealed Recordings, Who is the next hot act coming from Revealed Recordings?
HARDWELL - Two guys to really keep an eye on for 2012 are definitely Dannic and Dyro. Both super talented producers and DJ’s, I’m sure they will both blow up this year. I just finished a track with Dannic called Kontiki which will be out in April. Dyro has had some releases on Revealed which were supported massively by all the big jocks and has some amazing releases coming up on Revealed.
Chris of FON - What advice would you give a young DJ just starting out?
HARDWELL - Don’t think success will happen overnight, hard work pays of. Practise a lot, I’ve been playing 25 gigs a month in Holland for many many years. Furthermore nowadays to break through as a dj it’s crucial to produce your own music as well.
Chris of FON - You were ranked number 24 in the world by DJ magazine in 2011 what affect has that had on you
HARDWELL - I was and am still very happy with this result of course. Last year was amazing travelling the world and for instance touring with Tiesto, having so many succesfull releases, #1 on Beatport.
Chris of FON - You have been playing some huge music festivals like EDC last year, WMC, & Ultra this year, what was your favorite festival & why?
HARDWELL - Every festival has been amazing last year, as it’s outdoors the weather has a big role in how the festival will be. Last year EDC Vegas was a highlight for me, playing on the same stage as Skrillex and having a 30k crowd going crazy, that was huge!
Chris of FON - You are playing WMC & Ultra Music Festival this year right? Who are you looking forward to seeing this year at WMC?
HARDWELL - I’m also hosting my own label night Hardwell present Revealed at the SET on Friday 23rd of March. The concept is to bring a full night of Revealed sound, this edition with artists Dannic, Dyro, NO_ID and special guests Porter Robinson and Bingo Players. I’ll go and try to see a lot of other shows from DJ and label friends. Too many to choose from but if I had to name a few Tiesto @ Liv and Wolfgang Gartner’s Poolparty @ The National are definately on my list
Chris of FON - What do you think about how Electronic Music has blown up & how it is everywhere?
HARDWELL- It is amazing. Specially in US, It is unbelievable what’s happening over there. The scene is really blowing up there and finally house music is accepted, like it was in Europe for many years. I can see this rise of EDM go on for a while and that’s a great thing!
Chris of FON - Tell us what your fans can look forward to in 2012
HARDWELL - I’m planning a lot of tours for this year in US, Canada, Australia and of course in the summer playing at the big festivals. A lot of new Hardwell music coming your way and at the moment working on two really big remixes. With my label Revealed we have many releases line up already which will do well on the dance floors worldwide.
